The standard routeDAY
1
Arrive at Avallon On your day of arrival you will meet us at our base in Burgundy, where we will complete the necessary paperwork and transfer you and your bikes to the ancient fortified town of Avallon. Here you can enjoy a relaxing evening before cycling commences the following day. DAY
2
Avallon-Vezelay
2 Cycle over hills and
valleys passing through the village of St.Pere, where you can
visit its beautiful Gothic church. It is a perfect place to stop for lunch
before you take the hill climb to the outstanding village of Vezelay. Which has
an impressive Cathedral perched on the top of a hill, with splendid views over
the Burgundy country-side. DAY 3
Vezela Leaving Vezelay you
will take the winding country roads through the forest, heading for the ancient
picturesque town of Clamecy, situated on the Canal du Nivernais and the river Y DAY 4
Clamecy-Vermenton
40km.(approx.) Today is your longest day cycling, but this is compensated by the many kilometres you can do following the canal towpaths, which are of flat terrain and pass through many small villages. However, if you choose to follow the country roads there are splendid views of the river Yonne. You will arrive at Vermenton where you can walk along the quayside and bathe in the river Cure. DAY 5
Vermenton-Chablis
30km.(approx.) Cycle
through the historical village of Cravant, take the hill climb for the
breathtaking view of the vineyards and cherry orchards of Irancy, before
arriving at the charming village of Chablis,
where the name speaks for itself.

Chablis-Noy Today you meander through the country-side taking roads that follow the river Serein. You arrive at the fortified village of Noyers-sur-Serein with its narrow cobble stoned streets and half timbered houses that overhang the pavements. DAY 7 Noyers sur Serein-Avallon 30km.(approx.) Your last day of cycling takes you along quiet country roads. Stop off on route at Montreal, said to be the best medieval village in Burgundy. Cycle through the vallee du Cousin following its river to Avallon, where you will spend your last night. DAY 8
Leave
Avallon. Enjoy breakfast and we will then collect you. NOTE: If you get to your destination and are keen to do more cycling there are numerous opportunities to do so. If you would like to extend your holiday we suggest cycling from Vermenton to the medieval city of Auxerre for 2-3 nights before cycling on to Chablis. Auxerre - The St.Etienne Cathedral dates back to the 13th century. The half timbered houses overhang the cobbled streets and lead down to the river Yonne. Alternatively you could spend an extra night in Clamecy where you can take a day off from cycling and enjoy the atmosphere of this typically French town. (£30 extra per person per night. Single supplements apply.) Please state at time of booking. Both Auxerre and Clamecy have excellent rail services. |
